A Word From Our Director:
Cynthia Yvonne McBride-Tillman
Hello, I would just like to share how happy and blessed I am to be the Director of Open Arms Christian Child Development Center and part of the Open Arms and Our Savior Lutheran Church family. I would like to share with you a little bit about my family and myself. I accepted the position of Director of Open Arms in November 2006, coming from Memphis, Tennessee where I was an administrator at a Lutheran Elementary School.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. I previously attended a Lutheran High School and a Lutheran Junior College in Selma, Alabama. My teaching credentials include over thirty years of experience in preschool through eighth grade. I have also served as Elementary School Administrator and Principal. Included in my experience is working at the college level as an Admissions Counselor and Recruiter for Concordia College in Selma, Alabama. I have taught at schools located in Flint, Michigan; East Point, Georgia; Bessemer and Montgomery Alabama; and Memphis, Tennessee. Now I am proud to include Laurel, Maryland to my list.
I am currently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and I sing in the Sanctuary Choir. I usually attend the 11:00 am services. I would love to greet each of you at Our Savior on Sunday mornings. Please be sure to make yourself known to me so that I can welcome you to our church service.
I now live in Bowie, Maryland with my daughter, Jeniece. She graduated last year from Long Reach High School and is attending Prince George's Community College. She is still trying to decide which University to attend in the future. I also have a son, Jason living in Minnesota and a granddaughter named Nevaeh. She was baptized at Our Savior Lutheran Church and attends Open Arms when she visits her grandmother here in Maryland.
We have made some wonderful progress at Open Arms with the help of our co-workers such as: increasing our enrollment, all of our classrooms are now opened, we have been approved by Maryland State Department of Education for our License, received National Accreditation from the National Lutheran School Association, and have increased our Summer Program Enrollment.
We, as your Child Care Provider continue to participate in taking Continuing Education Classes and attend Workshops to help us meet State Guidelines in working with your children. I have taken several classes also to help me to continue to be a qualified leader for our Open Arms Staff and families.
I am always striving to ensure that Open Arms provides a nurturing and safe environment for the educational, social, physical and spiritual development of your children. We hope to do this through a loving and Christ-centered child development center. Please let me know if I may be of service to you. I look forward to meeting with you.
Yours in Christ,
Cynthia Tillman
